St. Louis Joins Federal Smart Cities Initiative

The federal government's Smart Cities Initiative is still going strong, and adding new cities like St. Louis to its roster.

"The St. Louis mayor's office announced Monday the city is joining the Smart Cities Initiative," reports Emily Van de Riet.

The Smart Cities Initiative is a federal program in existence since 2015. According to the announcement by the Office of St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson, "[t]he Smart City efforts in St. Louis will focus on achieving four main goals: improving public safety, making City services more efficient, equitable delivery of City services, and expanding internet access for every St. Louisan."

According to Van de Riet's article, that process will launch with the hiring of a chief technology officer. "Mayor Lyda Krewson also wants to form a Smart City Commission and advisory groups, which residents will be allowed to be a part of to develop a plan," writes Van de Riet.
