The Los Angeles Department of Transportation announced proposed speed limit changes and enforcement budgets. Changes to the speed limit will mean an increase in most places.
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) has proposed about 100 miles of speed limit increases and about 50 miles of speed limit decreases. "L.A. is required to periodically update speeds due to California’s 'speed trap' law, which prevents cities from setting 'arbitrarily low' speed limits," Joe Linton writes for Streetsblog LA. LADOT Spokesperson Oliver Hou also talked about updates in speed enforcement and LAPD budgets. "Hou reports that LAPD, which received a $1.5 million budget allocation for dedicated Vision Zero enforcement efforts, has already stepped up speed enforcement on High Injury Network streets," Linton reports.
The speed limit updates are likely to go before the Los Angeles City Council on October 25.
