Facebook is expanding its operations into the city of Fremont in Alameda County—the same county as Oakland and Berkeley—in an eastward shift for the tech giant.

Facebook is expanding its corporate footprint in the San Francisco Bay Area to a location much farther east than is typically associated with the tech industry of the Silicon Valley.

"Facebook has embarked on a major expansion of its Bay Area operations and marked its first foray into Fremont by leasing two big office buildings in Fremont’s Ardenwood district with room enough for hundreds of workers," reports George Avalos.

With 190,000 square feet leased in Fremont, Facebook could potentially move as many as 950 employees to the space.

In the past year, Planetizen has picked up news of two additional expansions for Facebook—one at its headquarters in Menlo Park, and another in the city of San Francisco.
