Planning and design work on a proposed three-acre cap park is progressing in Pittsburgh.
The Pittsburgh-Allegheny County Sports & Exhibition Authority is finalizing the details of a plan to build a 3-acre park over Interstate 579/Crosstown Boulevard in Downtown Pittsburgh.
The $26.4 million park would connect the Hill and the former Civic Arena site to Downtown, reports Mark Belko. Included in the current design concept for the cap park are " [w]alls that help to tell the history of the Hill District, performance spaces, and event lawns that can be used as outdoor classrooms or simply as places to relax and reflect."
The Pittsburgh-Allegheny County Sports & Exhibition Authority is briefing the city's Planning Commission on the project this week. "If the proposal wins approval, the project could be bid in early summer and construction could start later in the year," reports Belko.
