Around the world, nearly 70 cities are already testing and developing automated vehicles in some capacity.

Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Aspen Institute have created a global database of the cities preparing for the transition to a world with automated vehicles (AVs).
The Initiative on Cities and Autonomous Vehicles list includes both piloting cities and preparing cities. The 47 piloting cities "are hosting AV tests, or have committed to doing so in the near future." The 22 preparing cities "are undertaking long-range surveys of the regulatory, planning, and governance issues raised by AVs, but have not yet started piloting."
For news coverage of the new database, an article by Karen Hao offers insight into the new database, presenting infographics and other conceptual frames for how cities are beginning to prepare for a future filled with AVs.
