After streets in Boston flooded last week, leaving cars frozen in the floodwaters, local leaders are renewing a call for a $10 billion sea wall.
Dan Atkinson and Chris Cassidy report:
The freezing floodwaters that swamped downtown Boston when yesterday’s powerful winter storm collided with a record high tide has created new momentum to guard against climate change — including constructing a $10 billion sea barrier in the harbor.
Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh was unequivocal about the cause of the flood: climate change. At a press conference, Mayor Walsh said: "If anyone wants to question global warming, just see where those flood zones are."
According to the article, the city’s Climate Ready Boston report already laid out one proposal for a sea wall.
More coverage of the effects of the storm, including the freezing floods in Revere, Massachusetts, is available from the BBC and CBS.
