Chicago Avenue is a key artery for the city, so why don't some bike advocates want a bike lane there?

"The idea to reduce the number of traffic lanes from four to two and install a center turn lane was a recommendation in a taxpayer-funded 'We Are West Town' Master Plan completed last spring," Alisa Hauser writes for the Sun Times. Some business owners say that, while they're excited for wider sidewalks, they worry that a narrower Chicago Avenue will send more traffic down Augusta and away from their businesses.
Some transit advocates, including Streetsblog's John Greenfield, have criticized the plan for putting in a bike lane where a dedicated bus lane could have a bigger impact on more Chicagoans.
