Bus transit has been hemorrhaging riders in New York City, and the MTA is readying a plan to address some of the problems.
"The MTA will unveil a comprehensive plan to improve failing local bus service in April," reports Vincent Barone.
"The plan, directed by new New York City Transit president Andy Byford, aims to address ever-slowing bus speeds and unreliability of routes that experts and officials believe has contributed to a drastic decrease in bus ridership over the last five years," adds Barone.
According to Barone, the new comprehensive planning effort has grown out of advocacy efforts from organizations like Bus Turnaround Campaign and organizations like the Center for an Urban Future and TransitCenter. The article quotes Jon Orcutt, spokesman for the nonprofit TransitCenter and a member of the Bus Turnaround Campaign, saying that the plan will be less important than action in improving the city's bus services.
