Mapping All the Lots NYC Has Sold for a Song

The advocacy group 596 Acres has released a new map that plots the location of every parcel that has been sold by the city of New York for $1.

According to the One Dollar Lots website, the city has sold 202 city-owned lots for $1 since the Mayor Bill de Blasio took office. As pointed out in an article by Rachel Dovey, the beneficiaries of these cheap land acquisitions range from an organization that provides supportive housing to LGBT youth to a fairly large development company called Jonathan Rose Companies.

596 Acres uses the map to build to a larger point about how the long tradition of New York City selling its properties for the price of $1 should be transformed to the benefit of the communities where these lots are located.
