Lasers, water vapor, shouting bollards, and facial recognition have all been deployed in the city of Daye in China to control traffic and pedestrians.

A mid-sized Chinese city in Hubei province is shooting water vapor at jaywalkers. The city has a new installation at a busy intersection. "It consists of five yellow bollards arranged along the road. The lower three spray water vapour when sensors indicate someone is walking on a red light," Straits Times reports. It will also shine lasers and give voice commands to walkers crossing against the light.
The system is also equipped with facial recognition software, a technology that is ascendant in China.
Officials from Daye say that if the system helps stop pedestrians from crossing against lights, they will look to install more around the city.
