The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is seeking public support for a plan to add a protected bike and pedestrian path along Delaware Avenue.
The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is working on a new bicycle trail along Delaware Avenue in Philadelphia. The trail would extend from Washington Avenue to Spring Garden Street and would complement the already popular Schuylkill River Trail.
Jim Saksa reports on the details of the proposed project:
The proposal would effectively replace the bike lane along the east side of Delaware Avenue with a two-way cycle track separated from the roadway by a series of plantings, similar to how the freight rail line in the middle of the roadway now works. The plan would rely on using the large sidewalks and other space between the road and the river. None of Delaware Avenue’s travel lanes would be lost.
Saksa was present at a recent public hearing for the proposal, where the project was "met with general assent."
