Looking for signs of the growth of urban agricultural as a viable industry?
Beth Kowitt reports on the fundraising efforts of a Brooklyn-based urban agriculture startup called Gotham Greens, "which grows produce hydroponically in climate-controlled greenhouses…"
According to Kowitth, Gotham Greens "has closed a $29 million Series C financing round, bringing its total equity funding to $45 million," and is planning to use the funds "to build out new greenhouse facilities, invest in R&D, and expand distribution and its team."
Gotham Greens already operates four greenhouses, totaling 170,000 square feet of urban agricultural space, in New York and Chicago. It is currently developing another 500,000 square feet of space in five U.S. states.
