City officials have a new ambition for a corner of St. Louis once considered for an NFL stadium and an MLS stadium. Now the future site of an NHL practice facility, the surrounding area could become an entertainment district.
"As crews make progress on the $78 million St. Louis Community Ice Center, the future practice facility of the St. Louis Blues, Maryland Heights officials want to leverage some of the momentum realized from that project into a series of future development plans," reports Brian Feldt.
"Ultimately, the city wants to see that area of the city — about 200 acres between Highway 141 and the Hollywood Casino in St. Louis County — transform from farmland into a massive entertainment district that would cost hundreds of millions of dollars to develop," adds Feldt.
The city's vision for those 200 acres could also expand. The Maryland Park Lake District expands the area to 2,000 acres. A website for the Maryland Park Lake District tax-increment financing, a transportation development district, a community development district, or property tax abatements to fund the area's transformation.
