A big capital project in Monterey County, on California's Central Coast, is on hold during the federal shutdown. It's probably not the only one.

"Local transportation projects are being impacted by the temporary federal government shutdown, including delays for new buses and funding for the multimodal corridor between Marina and Salinas," reports Eduardo Cuevas.
"The Marina-Salinas Multimodal Corridor, along Imjin Parkway, is currently in limbo," explains Cuevas. "A collaboration between TAMC and the city of Marina and funded using Measure X and state gas tax funds, the construction of that project could be delayed."
Grant and loan applications totaling $14.5 million for buying new buses are in limbo, according to Cuevas. Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) is also unable to apply for its annual operations grant, so "the further delays will be felt in the spring when MST will have a cash flow shortfall affecting its ability to pay employees and diesel fuel, which could result in MST having to reduce transit services."
