CSX moved operations away from Hulsey Yard, so what should the land become?

Husley Yard provided Atlanta with a bustling center of shipping activity, but now CSX, the property’s owner, is moving operations to another site, igniting conversations about the redevelopment possibilities. What’s Next ATL spoke to several prominent figures about the site’s potential.
Ryan Gravel, the original thinker behind Atlanta’s BeltLine, emphasized the need to incorporate the space into the transit network. "The most important thing is that it includes the Atlanta BeltLine transit and trail," he argues.
Other leaders also commented on the site’s potential benefit to the transit network. Christopher Leerssen of the Neighborhood Planning Unit talked about the possibility of a new MARTA station. He went on to highlight the possibility of making the site a place for other uses that could benefit the city. "At the risk of trying to stuff too many things on a site, we need to strongly consider affordable housing (which the BeltLine overlay is doing as of late), solar power generation, and beautiful stormwater management practices," Leerssen says.
