The city of South Gate, located on the southern stretch of the Los Angeles River, downriver of Downtown Los Angeles, recently published an initial study of the "Urban Orchard Project."

"The City of South Gate is moving forward with plans to construct a large park adjacent to the Los Angeles River," reports Steven Sharp.
"The Urban Orchard Project, described as a passive recreation area, would span a linear 30-acre site on the River's east bank - running 1.1 miles between Firestone Boulevard in the north and the Rio Hondo Channel in the south," according to Sharp.
The city's plans for the Urban Orchard Project are in accordance with the Lower L.A. River Revitalization plan, which was revealed in draft form at the end of 2017.
