Like many cities around the country, the city of Syracuse struggles with vacant and blighted residential properties. Lately, Syracuse can report positive progress on the challenge.

"The City of Syracuse is experiencing significant and sustained declines in vacant housing," according to news reported by Channel 9 News.
"Since 2017, the City has seen the number of vacant residential properties drop by 12.3%." That means there are 400 fewer vacant properties in the city compared to 2015, when officials estimated 1,886 vacant residential properties around Syracuse.
Officials quoted in the article credit better tracking of vacant properties and better proactive efforts to prevent more properties from becoming vacant. "The City is using funds from the State Attorney General’s Office to implement programs like the Vacant Property Task Force and Blight Busting," according to the article.
