Two of a planned five new suburban rail routes, modeled on examples in Paris and Berlin, opened last week in Russia.

"Moscow on Thursday unveiled the latest addition to its sprawling public transportation system, aiming to rival the suburban rail links of Paris and Berlin and divert commuters away from cars," according to an article by AFP Relax News.
"Called Moscow Central Diameters, the network reaches suburban towns in the Moscow region mainly using the existing railways but upgrading the trains and claiming to provide a more convenient and cheaper service."
Russian political leadership was on hand on November 21 to inaugurate two of the first new lines in the system, connecting to existing radial routes, according to a separate article published by Railway Gazette.
