The latest wave of popular electric vehicles, think Teslas and GMC Hummer EVs, are well outside of the price range of normal, thrifty Americans. Ford wants to change that.

Ford Motor Co. CEO Jim Farley recently announced plans to deliver an affordable electric vehicle to the U.S. market, according to an article by Steve Hanley.
Hanley calls the announcement an obvious swipe at General Motors, who recently revealed a $112,000 electric Hummer.
Ford's affordable electric vehicle option is still far from a reality. Another expensive electric vehicle, the Mustang Mach-E, with a starting price of $43,995, is expected to be on the market before the end of the year. According to messages attributed to Farley in the article, Ford Motor Co. is hoping the Mustang Mach-E will broaden the market for electric vehicles outside of California.
“If Ford is coming out with an electric car — our electric future is here,” Farley is quoted saying in the article.
