The car failed to recognize the stopped emergency vehicle until just two seconds before the crash.

An analysis from the Wall Street Journal, summarized in a six-minute video, uses dashcam footage and data from a crash in Texas to assess why a Tesla’s autopilot system did not recognize a stopped emergency vehicle, plowing directly into the car at full speed.
The analysis shows that the Tesla did not ‘see’ the stopped vehicle, which had highly visible flashing lights, as it approached it. The car’s log shows the Tesla only recognized the car as an obstacle 2 seconds before the collision.
