A nonprofit electric car sharing program offers hourly or daily rentals recently expanded to San Joaquin County.

A nonprofit electric car sharing company is expanding its operations in California’s Central Valley, bringing more mobility options to a historically underserved region.
As Skip Descant explains in GovTech, “Míocar, a nonprofit car-sharing cooperative that began about a year ago serving Tulare and Kern counties, recently expanded its reach into San Joaquin County.”
“Míocar functions as the operational platform for the Stockton Electric Vehicle Carsharing Service, which includes 13 battery-electric vehicles and five charging units throughout the region.” The program is partly funded by a California Air Resources Board (CARB) grant and provided over 1,600 trips in the Stockton area prior to its expansion.
Car sharing programs can improve mobility for rural households when public transit is sparse and car ownership is financially out of reach.
