A protective dune built with funds from city residents lasted just three days before being washed away in a storm.

A half-million dollar sand dune built to protect a coastal Massachusetts community washed away in just three days, reports Dan Ladden-Hall in the Daily Beast.
Residents of Salisbury paid to build the dune last week from 14,000 tons of sand because “Beachfront homes in the area started being damaged by strong winds and high tides after a winter storm in December 2022 removed previous protective dunes, according to WBTS-CD.”
An NBC Boston article adds that “Residents say they continue to work with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to bring in more sand.”
