"Environmentalism and Smart Growth: Forging a New Consensus" is thesecond paper in a series being published by the Funders' Network for SmartGrowth and Livable Communities to examine practical aspects of how we create smarter, more livable communities. The paper, written by Rachel Peterson(former Executive Director of CFN Affiliate Urban Ecology), is dividedinto five sections. First, it focuses on the trends of suburbanizationandthe environmental impacts of development. It then examines growthpoliticsand the clashes between some environmentalist and smart growth ideals,aswell as possibilities for a philosophical shift within the environmental movement.
