Pasadena's Raymond Theater: Preserve or Develop?

Empty 1920's historic theater: is there room for both historic preservation and economic development?

Pasadena's historic Raymond Theater stands in the middle of a dispute between planners, citizens and developers. Co-owner and developer Gene Buchanan would like to gut the interior, expand onto adjacent land and provide much-needed downtown housing and additional lucrative retail space. Historic preservationist Gina Zamparelli would would like to see the theater, built in 1921 and eligible for designation on the California Register of Historic Places, refurbished to its former glory.
