The Associated Press breaks the news of a final delay for the Alaskan Way Viaduct, when state transportation officials announced a January 11, 2019 target date for the permanent closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct.
When the plan to build a tunnel to replace the viaduct was announced in 2009, the target date for the closure was in December 2015. The main reason for the long delay, of course, was the challenges that faced the tunnel boring machine named Bertha.
