Buckeye's recent vote to allow the largest subdivision in Arizona's history does nothing to settle questions about sprawl.
"The questions revolve not around 'growth' vs. 'no growth' but the complicated art of where to set the balance... The threat of hundreds of thousands of new houses should require the mother of all environmental-impact studies. Developers and residents should be taxed, with the money going to transit and center city projects. A Sonoran Desert Commission could regulate sprawl; that's how California kept its coast beautiful."
