The METRONext Moving Forward Plan was revealed at the annual meeting of the Greater Houston Partnership.
"Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) Chair Carrin Patman on Wednesday unveiled a $7.5 billion METRONext Moving Forward Plan," according to an article published by Progressive Railroading.
"The proposed long-range plan calls for completing more than 40 projects — including a major light-rail expansion — by 2040 and beyond to address the Houston region's current and projected population growth," according to the article. The light rail expansion would double the current system "by extending the Green and Purple lines to William P. Hobby Airport." The plan also calls for a bur rapid transit lime to George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
The video above was published earlier this week on on the METRO Houston YouTube account. The video displays a surprising commitment to the aesthetics of the 1980s as it makes the pitch for the plan.
