A new report advises that federal funding for Canadian urban projects should only be granted to urban projects that are sustainable, and would curb sprawl.
"The federal government should invest $1-billion a year in transit for the next decade, but only on projects that boost ridership and curb urban sprawl, says a new report to be released today.By attaching strings to its funding of big-ticket urban projects and taking other steps too Ottawa could promote more livable cities, argues the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy, a federal advisory panel of industry, labour, environment groups and academics."
