More priority will be given buses as 275,000 daily commuters find new ways to and from work while the L Train is closed for repairs in New York City.

"In preparation for the L-train shutdown in April, [New York City] has begun altering the appearance of streets at anticipated congestion points," reports Gerald Schifman.
"In the past few weeks the traffic lanes at 14th Street intersections between Third and Ninth avenues have been painted red, which will signal that motorists must exit. By April, white Bus Only wording will be stenciled in the black boxes to make the message clear. Similar restricted lanes are planned for Delancey Street between the Williamsburg Bridge and the Bowery," according to Schifman.
Schifman provides additional details about where the city is adding bike lanes and pedestrian walkways. Schifman also notes that some of the changes could become permanent if they prove successful.
