Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) / CTBUH Year in Review: Tall Trends of 2018

India Block shares news of an annual report on the progress of supertall buildings around the world.

The annual report by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) tracks the construction on skyscrapers in cities around the world—taking the metaphorical temperature of the world's economy and appetite for these symbols of economic power.

According to the 2018 report, 18 new supertall (i.e., taller than 300 meters) buildings were completed this year, with 11 of those new buildings located in China. "Of the 143 buildings over 200 metres high completed in 2018, the CTBUH calculated, 88 were in China. It was a record-breaking year for the country, which built 86 tall buildings in 2016, and 80 in 2017," writes Block.
