The study gathers emissions reporting data from cities around the world.

A new report in Nature compares carbon emissions from 343 cities around the world, including 64 in the United States.
"The nation's total CO2 emissions were 16.2 metric tons per capita in 2017, the equivalent of greenhouse gases produced by more than three cars driven for a year," Mike Reicher repots in the Tennessean.
The study standardizes the results of cities' self-reporting into an analysis of emissions per-capita in an effort to determine which emissions reduction strategies work best. It highlights emissions from industry, agriculture, waste and wastewater treatment, transportation, and building stock.
Reicher's story is targeted to Nashville and Knoxville, noting that both cities reported emission levels below the national average in 2017.
