The proposal to create a new department in the city of Atlanta devoted to traffic and potholes came in the State of the City speech delivered this week by Mayor Keisha Bottoms.

"Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms on Thursday announced that she is creating the city’s first Department of Transportation to help to address two of the city’s most pressing problems: potholes and traffic," reports Stephen Deere.
According to Mayor Bottoms, the idea for the transportation agency dates to her time on the Atlanta City Council, originating from Councilmember Andre Dickens.
"[T]he new department would coordinate with the public works department, which repairs the city’s roads; the planning department, which designs them; and Renew Atlanta, which makes long-term investments in the city’s transportation infrastructure," reports Deere of the ideas laid out by the mayor in a State of the City speech delivered at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta.
