Smashing Transit Ridership Success in New Zealand

The city of Auckland, in New Zealand, set a goal to double its transit ridership in ten years. With a little under four years left to achieve that goal, the city is already well on its way.

Todd Niall reports from New Zealand: "Aucklanders might be on the way to doubling their public transport use to 120 million rides a year within a decade, a goal once deemed 'unbelievably outrageous'."

"Auckland will hit 100 million trips in a 12-month period mid-year, with three years and eight months remaining to reach 120 million," adds Niall of the city's accomplishments so far.

According to the article, the city redesigned its bus network. The so-called New Network, "simplified routes, boosting frequency and capacity on many services, but requiring more commuters to transfer."
