"That is perhaps the most disturbing message of "Edgeless Cities": that hyper-low density development is somehow inevitable. Policymakers acknowledge that not everyone wants to be in downtown Boston but think of places like Framingham as an acceptable alternative. But if that middle ground between town and country is itself destined to fail, unchecked development will continue to seep out into the space between -- on and on, into an ever more placeless future."
