Attempt to bring Sacramento Affordable Housing Requirment in compliance with State mandates likely to be a controversial issue.
The City of Sacramento is proposing a requirement that 15% of all new housing in developments be affordable for those earning less than half the median household income. Housing advocates are concerned whether or not the City will stand firm in requiring that this affordable-housing zoning requirement be "inclusionary" as opposed to "sequestered". The building industry is concerned that the City will require them to subsidize the construction of these affordable units. The City of Sacramento is trying to structure a policy that will work for both sides. The debate is about to go public via an upcoming hearing scheduled in the next few weeks.
