The massive layoffs represent one-third of Uber's global marketing team.
"Uber laid off more than 400 marketing employees today (July 29), a week before the ride-hail company is due to report second-quarter earnings," reports Alison Griwswold.
The layoffs are the largest since the company launched in 2009. According to Griswold, the layoffs suggest that the company "is under increased pressure as a public company to bring its spending in check."
