An affluent suburb located north of Atlanta is asking pedestrians to play a role in traffic safety.
The city of Dunwoody in Dekalb County, Georgia, "wants both pedestrians and drivers to be more aware of the rules of the road," reports J.D. Capelouto.
The city is launching a new safety campaign called "See and Be Seen: We're All Responsible." The campaign "will include videos, ads, a special website and social media posts aimed at changing drivers’ behaviors and educating pedestrians," according to Capelouto.
The city has made a concerted effort to enforce its hands-free traffic law, issuing 1,150 citations to scofflaws since the law went into effect a little over a year ago. Still, continued close calls and crashes have inspired the city to put more of the onus on pedestrians in the traffic safety mix.
