Older neighborhoods near downtown Sacramento command a premium for their eclectic architecture and proximity to jobs and cultural attractions.
Pre-1950s neighborhoods with the right attributes beat suburbia in many buyers minds: "Home shoppers Rob and Kelly Norris faced a decision: pay about $500,000 for a spacious suburban spread or pay nearly as much for a relatively tiny, older house east of downtown Sacramento... But when it comes to paying the most money for the least amount of home, the older, close-to-downtown Sacramento neighborhoods consistently rank higher. Many of the houses are relatively small, which magnifies the premium buyers are willing to pay."
