Plunger-Protected Bike Lane Clears Path in Boulder

Someone must have tired of the cars clogging the 30th Street bike lanes and taken matters into their own hands.

An unnamed party used plumbing equipment to create an improvised protected-ish bike lane on a busy street in Boulder Colorado. "About 100 wooden-handled plungers lined both shoulders on 30th Street between Arapahoe Avenue and Baseline Road, forming a MacGyver-ed barrier between vehicles and bicyclists to call attention to creating safer conditions for cyclists," Mitchell Byers reports for the Denver Post. The tactic is reminiscent of previous examples from Omaha and Wichita.

Boulder officials say that, while they appreciate the desire to improve safety conditions for cyclists, placing these objects in the road is illegal.
