Architecture Firms Face Tough Competition

'Fierce' competition amongst architecture firms vying for the North Point development in Cambridge, MA, reflects a slow economy and an interesting site.

8 out of 100 architecture firms were selected by developer Spaulding & Slye to "compete to build everything from labs and offices to shops and housing for one of the early stages of its $1.3 billion 45-acre North Point project near the Lechmere MBTA station and the Museum of Science in Cambridge...." Three out of the eight firms will be selected in September to design one block each. "North Point, with a total of 19 blocks when completed over several phases, will be a total of more than 5 million square feet of condos, apartments, office and laboratory space, and stores. With its 2,500 residential units occupied, it alone would rank as about the 250th largest city or town in Massachusetts."Click on the link for a list of the selected firms.
