Boston area artists are making reverse commutes to escape the escalating costs of studio space in the city.
More and more artists in Boston are commuting outside the city to escape escalating rents of studio spaces in the city. Some, however, are also drawn to the stock of old factory buildings that can be developed into studio spaces. Many artists, such as those living in artist live-work housing Fort Point, are in danger of becoming displaced. In addition, "many artist spaces are being converted into artist condos, which is displacing those who have homes and don't want to buy a condo."
