The newly created position of Chief Transportation Planner for the city of Houston is tasked with working with multiple levels of government to help shift Houston away from its car-centric model.

"In an effort to make Houston a less car-centric city, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has hired the city’s first chief transportation planner," reports Emma Whalen.
"The position will serve as a liaison between Houston Public Works, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, the Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Texas Department of Transportation with a goal of streamlining city planning and improving access to alternative methods of transportation," according to Whalen.
Mayor Turner hired David Fields, previously of Nelson\Nygaard, to fill the new role. More on the new position can be found in a press release from Mayor Turner announcing the hire of David Fields.
