A photo series showcases the disruptive effect the pandemic has had on the U.S. auto industry.

"Throughout the U.S., rental car companies have parked hundreds of thousands of unused cars," according to an article by Robert Gauther. Professional sports stadiums are a popular location to store the mothballed fleets of cars. "Seen from above, places such as Dodger Stadium and Santa Anita racetrack look as if it’s a big day at the yard, when, in fact, the stands are empty."
According to Gauther, a decline in car sales and a resulting glut of inventory have also contributed to the dystopian scene in parking lots around Southern California during the pandemic .
Most of the space in the article is devoted to photographs of the scene at Southern California professional sports facilities like the aforementioned and a few more.
