A large-scale experiment is underway.
"Reopening America and The World: A Way Forward," a new report by the Brookings Institution, examines the experiences of the United States and other countries to derive lessons about the process of reopening from the lockdowns and stay-at-home orders of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the human impacts of the process.
With the stated goal of informing the public conversation about COVID, helping business, government, and civic leaders take next steps, and thinking about the immediate and longer-term consequences of the virus, the report gathers insights and observations of three dozen Brookings scholars to consider the process of reopening from many different angles.
"We must learn as much as possible about this pandemic in order to address its overall ramifications," according to the intro. The report is presented in two volumes: the first, "Reopening America," is available as of this writing. The second volume, "Reopening the World," will be available soon.
