Miami's reputation as the gateway to Latin America rests on its ability to attract the headquarters for the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

Other front-runners for the new headquarters include Panama City, Panama; Atlanta (US); Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; and Puebla, Mexico's fourth-largest city... "Nobody, however, wants it more than Miami, a city that sees the FTAA's headquarters -- the 'secretariat' -- as validation of its self-proclaimed role as 'gateway to the Americas' and a credential that would put it on a par with other world trade cities like Geneva, Brussels and Tokyo."
