Atlanta's new fleet of rail cars, expected for delivery in 2023, will include open gangways. Other design features of the new cars are still to be determined.

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) is seeking public input to inform design decisions about the interior features of $646 million in new rail cars, reports Josh Green.
As noted by Green, MARTA finalized a contract with the manufacturer Stadler to buy the new rail cars in November 2019. "The deal marked the largest procurement for either organization and what MARTA officials called a milestone of their capital improvement campaign, an effort to boost customer satisfaction and slash delays."
The "You Ride You Decide" initiative is seeking public input on the interior design of cars, though some features are already decided, like open gangways, according to the Green. A similar outreach initiative regarding the exteriors of rail cars is expected to launch later this month.
