As traffic congestion worsens, Tucson residents attempt to take matters into their own hands.
Using their own money, along with funds donated by the high school, [residents] designed and constructed an initial traffic circle in the Samos neighborhood of Tucson. One Samos resident and civil engineer designed three new circles, which were built with contractor help and completed by another local homeowner The residents wanted to streamline the operation through a local non-profit, but the city has blocked the effort, and layered on the bureaucracy. Samos residents believe the traffic circles should be a neighborhood issue, and that the cost of a do-it-yourself project should not exceed $1,000... local residents have a real stake in the circles. Its critical to get neighborhood people together to build and maintain them.
