Atlanta councilmembers believe that closing bars earlier will make the streets of Buckhead safer, but what will the overall impact be?
Why do people come to Atlanta? They come here to eat at our fine restaurants and experience our wonderful nightlife, says a Midtown Atlanta bar owner. Yet this nightlife has been a source of concern in Buckhead, where street violence and sexual harassment have escalated to new levels. Some city councilmembers think that closing bars two-hours earlier citywide would do the trick, but can this be proven? This new law might unintentionally exacerbate the problems as patrons flood into the streets, and it could reduce the citys revenue from sales tax. Instead of blanketing a curfew on the entire city, efforts could be concentrated on Buckhead with an increased police presence.
