Florida, who has a highly developed social conscience for an economist, warned that if the economic power of the creative class is not harnessed for the good of all citizens, it will only widen the gap between rich and poor. He believes that, in the proper social conditions, creativity will rise from the streets (he also expressed great skepticism about mega-cultural projects as tools of urban development, pointing out that museums don't make art)... The creative age is "not a magic bullet for social ills," he said, arguing that Canada's social liberalism and openness to immigration place the country in a much more advantageous economic position than the U.S., where conservative forces 'have stuck the gear-shift in reverse.' "
