Developers are racing to finish four new apartment buildings as demand for urban living has so far exceeded the trendy Pearl District's production of new rental units. The rental construction demonstrates that the Pearl District is evolving beyond the two core markets fueling its success so far: high-end condos and subsidized affordable apartments. The construction also signifies how much developers think Portlanders crave the style of urban living they can find in the district.
